    You can choose to see one of our qualified GPs, depending on appointment availability at the time you want to see a doctor.

Appointments and Consultations

  • What are your opening hours for appointments?

    Peak Family Practice is open Monday to Friday
    from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

  • Do you accept new patients?

    Yes. We welcome individuals and families from Hout Bay and the greater Cape Town area. Visitors are welcome too!

  • Do I need a referral to see a GP here?

    No. You can book directly with us.

  • Do you offer same-day appointments?

    If you or your child becomes unwell suddenly, please call.
    We will always try to accommodate you on the same day.

  • Can I request a longer appointment if needed?

    Yes. Although we already allocate ample time for our regular appointments, more extended visits are available if you feel you need more time.

  • Do you offer telehealth or virtual GP appointments?

    Yes. Video consultations are available to known patients when an in-person visit isn’t possible.

  • Can I get a prescription without being seen?

    An in-person or telehealth consultation is usually necessary to ensure correct treatment and safe prescribing. Repeat prescriptions may be issued at the doctor’s discretion to patients who have been seen at the practice within the preceding year.

  • Do you provide sick notes for work or school?

    Yes, after a consultation, if it is clinically appropriate.

    Yes. There is easy parking right outside the entrance.
    There is also street parking available on Victoria Avenue.

  • Do you have a child-friendly space?

    Yes. Our clinical space is built with families in mind.
    Children can enjoy the outdoor playground while they wait, and the indoor spaces are calm and welcoming, helping them feel comfortable during their visit.

  • Do you see babies and children?

    Yes. We provide care from birth onward.

  • Do you offer childhood vaccinations?

    Yes. We follow the South African vaccine schedule and can advise on any catch-ups needed. We are working toward a public-private partnership agreement for state supplied vaccines, but can in the interim administer private vaccinations.

  • What is a well-baby check?

    This is a check-up to review growth, development, feeding, and general health for babies under 2 years of age.

  • Do you help with feeding or breastfeeding difficulties?

    Yes. We offer breastfeeding support and guidance for new parents.

  • Do you treat common childhood illnesses like ear infections, fevers or coughs?

    Yes. We help with everyday childhood concerns and provide clear guidance for home care.

Woman’s Health

  • Do you offer contraceptive care?

    Yes, including prescriptions, injections and advice on the best options for you.

  • Can I have a women’s health check-up here?

    Yes. We provide cervical screening, breast checks and support for menstrual concerns.

  • Do you offer pregnancy-related care?

    Yes. We work collaboratively with your midwife or obstetrician to provide relevant antenatal check-ins and support throughout pregnancy.

    Yes. You can discuss these privately with your GP.

Mental Health and Wellbeing

    Yes. If something needs a closer look, we can arrange imaging such as X-rays or ultrasounds and refer you to the appropriate specialist when required.

IV Infusions

  • Do you offer IV treatments?

    Yes, when clinically appropriate.
    These are always supervised by a doctor.

  • When might an IV infusion be recommended?

    We may consider IV treatment when your body needs support that we can’t best achieve with oral fluids or supplements.
    We will always discuss the reasons, benefits and any alternatives with you first so that you can make an informed decision.

  • How long does an IV infusion take?

    Most IV treatments take 30–60 minutes, depending on the type of infusion you require. You’ll be seated comfortably throughout, and we’ll keep a close eye on you during the procedure.

Chronic Conditions and General Health

  • Do you help with blood pressure, diabetes or cholesterol management?

    Yes. We support ongoing care and lifestyle planning.

  • Do you help with thyroid conditions?

    Yes. We provide testing, medication management and regular monitoring.

  • Do you help with weight-related health concerns?

    Yes. If an injury needs extra support or investigation, we can help you access physiotherapy, X-rays or other specialist care.

Visitors, International Patients and Pricing

  • Do you see international visitors?

    Yes. We welcome travellers who need a GP while staying in Hout Bay or exploring Cape Town.

  • How much does a consultation cost?

  • Do you help visitors access medication if they are travelling without a South African script?

    Yes. We can assess your needs and provide a prescription where indicated, so you can collect medication from local pharmacies in Hout Bay or the surrounding areas.

  • Do you accept patients without medical aid?

    Yes. Our pricing is clear and fair for everyone.

  • Do you accept medical aid?

    Peak Family Practice is a private practice, and whilst we record all your medical aid details, we cannot claim payment directly on your behalf. After each consultation, you’ll receive a detailed invoice with the correct tariff codes and information required by medical aids. You will need to settle your invoice at the time, and can then submit this to your medical aid for reimbursement according to your plan.

  • Can I pay by card at the practice?

    Yes. We accept all major bank cards for easy and secure payment at the time of your visit.

After Your Appointment

  • How do I get my results?

    We will contact you as soon as the results are ready and help you to understand them.

  • Can I get a copy of my records or script?

    Yes. Please contact us, and we’ll help to arrange it.

  • Will I need a follow-up appointment?

    If a follow-up is necessary, we’ll let you know and help you book it at a time that works for you.
    We’ll also explain what we are monitoring and why, so you always feel informed about the next steps.

Travel Medicine is Coming Soon

  • Can I see a GP for advice or vaccines before travelling ?

    Yes. Travel consultations can help you prepare safely for your destination.

  • Do you provide travel vaccines?

    This service is coming soon. In the meantime, we can advise you on which vaccines you may need based on your destination.

  • When should I book a travel health appointment?

    Ideally, book your travel consultation at least 4–6 weeks before you leave. This gives enough time for any recommended vaccines or medicines to take effect and for us to tailor advice to your destination and planned activities.
